Anna Bilon-Piórko
Research groups
Dr Anna Bilon-Piórko graduated in pedagogy and philosophy. Her first affiliation is the University of Lower Silesia in Wroclaw, Poland.
Her research interests lie primarily in the areas of the following:
- career education and guidance
- adult education and learning (andragogy)
- critical pedagogy
- philosophy
Therefore, her scholarly work is situated at the intersection of adult learning and education, social justice, and biographical research, drawing on critical theory, and post-structuralist perspectives. She is currently involved in the research projects related to the relationships between learning, social justice, activism, labour markets and social inequalities. She is focused on strengthening individuals’ agency through learning and education, career guidance, and social activity and activism.
Her doctoral dissertation, which focused on the organization of the career guidance system in the Netherlands, was awarded the Prize of the Minister of Science and Higher Education in Poland.
Anna is a member of the editorial boards of scientific journals (Journal of Counsellogy and INSTED - Interdisciplinary Studies in Education & Society).
She has also worked as a tutor and lecturer for participants of summer schools under the European doctoral program in career counselling and guidance (ECADOC).
Since 2022, Anna has been an independent expert and an additional national consultant in the CareersNet network at the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP). Her role includes preparing, in collaboration with the main expert, reports on the state of development of Polish career counselling and monitoring the development of European policies. She is also an External Examiner at Warwick University (UK).
