Research

Alex Örtegren is a PhD Candidate in Educational work at Umeå University. Alex is an affiliated researcher at Communication, Culture and Diversity (CCD). His research interests concern professional digital competence, particularly in relation to teacher educators’ preparation of new teachers for schools’ democratic assignment, such as fake news and AI. He is an active contributor in postdigital theory, for example exploring the conditions for democracy in societies where digital technologies are embedded in people’s everyday lives. Alex is a member of the Swedish research consortium GRADEresearch, where nine institutions explore how digitalization of society influences education.

Biography

Alex Örtegren has teaching experience both from freestanding courses and program courses in the field of digital technology and education at the bachelor’s and master’s level. He has also taught other courses in teacher education and contract education from the Swedish National Agency for Education, for example covering AI. He has school teaching experience both in Sweden and internationally. Alex has also worked as a school leader. He has acted as a reference person in various ways, for example in the area of AI for the Swedish National Agency for Education and as a steering group member of the Centre for Transdisciplinary AI at Umeå University.
