One part of the research concerns the potential of casting high strength aluminium components using rheocasting. The possibility to use typically wrought alloys will be studied together with optimisation of heat treatment procedures. The possible maximum strength of the components will be investigated.

The second area of research concerns residual stresses in High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) cast components of aluminium. In order to predict the evolution of residual stresses in a component during manufacture, reliable material data is needed. The task is to measure elastic, plastic and viscoplastic properties as a function of temperature.


Nils-Eric Andersson has a Master of Applied Physics from LiTH, the Institute of Technology, at Linköping University and took his PhD in Engineering Materials at LiTH, in 2003. In 2006 he started to work in the Swedish Foundry Association as a research engineer with topics concerning cast irons, especially compact graphite iron. Since august 2007 he is working as assistant professor at the department of Component Technology - Castings in the School of Engineering, Jönköping University.
